Traveling is amazing, and if you have a wonderful sense of adventure and love exploring, then there is nothing better than going out and seeing the beautiful world we live in! However, if you haven’t travelled before, or don’t know anyone else who has – then you may not be in the know about what to expect when you’re travelling around the world. To make sure you don’t fall into some of the common pitfalls of travelling, take a look at some of the advice below.
Trying to see everything
One of the most important to things to remember is that you do not try and cram seeing everything into one trip. The chances are, whilst you’re travelling you will not be in a place for very long, and you will be tempted to try and explore everywhere you can within that time. However, if you try and fit so many things into one day, you will be unable to really relax, have fun and take it all in properly. This can actually end up leaving you feeling unfulfilled and disappointed as to how the trip turned out! Instead, the advice would be to try and plan maybe just 1 or 2 things to do per day, this way you can truly appreciate the moment – and even if you don’t end up enjoying it, you will still have time to try something else.
Plan the Use of Your Money
If you are planning on travelling, you probably would have a good amount of money saved up – but a good rule to try and stick to is saving an extra 30% of your budget and setting it aside as a back-up. The reason for this is that when you are caught-up in having fun and enjoying yourself, you won’t be the conscious of trying to save lots of money. This could make you go over slightly in your weekly budget, so if you have a little money to the side, it can help you tick over during your time. It may also be a good idea to get a quick job if you’re going to be a in one place for a long time as this can help boost your budget.
Not having the right documents
Without a doubt, one of the key things you need to do when travelling is that you get yourself the correct travel documents. One of the worst things when travelling is being denied entry into a country because your travel documents are incorrect or not up-to-date. The two main travel documents you will want anywhere you go will be health & travel insurance. These are important because should you suffer an injury or lose any of your belongings, it can be made worse if you aren’t covered and have to either pay for healthcare or can not get any money back for your camera, phone etc. Additionally, for certain countries such as the UK or America, you will need to make sure you get the correct American or UK visa. As not having the right one can prevent you from entering the country.
